Employment at Badger Supports is eligible to all University of Wisconsin-Madison students. On average, our staff works 5-12 hours a week.
As part of the hiring and interview process, Badger Supports may request:
A Letter of Recommendation & Resume.
Written Application.
Personal Portfolio or Sample.
Up to Two Interviews.
While the application is open year-round, with hiring based on availability or during the Spring semester for the following academic year.
Volunteers at Badger Supports are trained to participate in all areas of our Directorates.
Volunteers:
Gain hands-on experience hosting workshops, staffing events, and supporting peer programs.
Help plan activities, connect students to resources, and build community across campus -
Develop skills, strengthen their resumes, connect with professionals, and promote mental health at UW–Madison.
New Volunteer Intake revolves around Volunteer Training, which is offered throughout the semester.
Working or volunteering at Badger Supports means joining a student-led team that is goal-oriented and focused on improving campus well-being.
Staff help run peer-support groups, plan events, and develop wellness programs while contributing to shared goals that strengthen community support.
Your role is designed to complement your career interests or academic studies, offering flexible scheduling, hands-on training, and opportunities to build leadership, communication, and project management skills that make a real impact at UW–Madison.
Our hiring process is designed to get to know each applicant’s strengths, interests, and fit within our team. Applicants submit a Letter of Recommendation and Resume, complete a Written Application, and may include a Personal Portfolio or Sample that highlights their experience or creativity.
Selected candidates are then invited to up to two interviews, which focus on teamwork, communication, and alignment with Badger Supports’ mission to promote mental health and community care on campus.
Interested students do not apply for a specific position. Instead, they share their interests and relevant experiences, and if selected, a role within Badger Supports is offered based on organizational needs and individual fit.
All Badger Supports Staff Positions are funded by the General Student Services Fund and are paid a flat $15.15 an hour.
Previous experience at Badger Supports through our volunteer program or in similar programs is preferred but not required. We value enthusiasm, reliability, and a willingness to learn just as much as prior experience. Training and mentorship are provided to help all team members succeed and grow within their roles at Badger Supports.
Volunteers can be as involved as they choose, whether through short-term events or long-term projects. The application process helps match each volunteer with a project that fits their interests and availability. Every volunteer who completes the process contributes to work that is reviewed, published, or implemented by the Badger Supports team.
Staff members typically have set weekly hours and ongoing responsibilities that align with their specific roles and goals within the organization.
